Dear Sharra, A subject that has garnered a lot of discussion over the last few weeks is something called Project 2025. It is a chilling memorandum for what is basically a Christian fascist takeover of the United States, presented as a blueprint for Trump's second term.
Even writing such words feels nothing short of surreal, yet unfortunately we must take them seriously. This is not a time in our history for denial or willful ignorance. It's time for the deepest level of sober reflection on what it will take to save our democracy.
I have never wanted to personally attack the President, and I'm not doing so now. But it's time to argue in the strongest possible terms that his low approval ratings, his apparent frailty, and his stance on various issues make him a very weak candidate for the Democrats in 2024.
I assume the leadership of the Democratic Party, the DNC, and the heads of the networks who seek to erase my candidacy take as seriously as we do the threat that Trump poses to our democracy. The difference between us is that they do not trust democracy to fix the problem. Rather, they think they have the right and the superior wisdom to decide whose candidacy will get a hearing. Phrases like "self-help author", "long shot", "she can't win," and "unserious" are meant to keep me out of the conversation at the very moment that the American people most need to know their options.
It is urgent that we create an antidote to the fascist threat at our door, and I believe our agenda does that. It reflects President Franklin Roosevelt's admonition that we would not have to worry about a fascist takeover in the United States as long as democracy delivered on its promises. I am the only candidate, including the President, whose agenda does that. |
