Obviously things are changing day to day, even hour to hour. But most bets would have it that President Biden will step down from his role as presumptive nominee sometime next week.
And then what happens?
Our volunteers worked hard this week, calling delegates to respectfully request that they declare an open convention. Many others as well, from Senators to local activists, have publicly called for the nomination to open up. We received half a million votes during the primaries; with your support, I traveled the country for a year and a half and made it on to 40 ballots. Should the convention be open, my right to be on the list of candidates going forward is undeniable. As of right now, the DNC Rules and Bylaws committee has designed the process in such a way that if there is to be an open convention, any proposed candidate would need 300-600 signed nominations from party delegates (no more than 50 from one state) in order for that candidate to be considered "legitimate by the party."
If delegates have to vote *before* hearing from any of the candidates, then the culture of control is simply perpetuated: "Only one of us is allowed." The open convention must really be "open." |
We are doing what we can to make our voice heard, and we need your support to continue. Over the last year and a half we've honed the campaign that would defeat Donald Trump. There is way too much at stake for any of us to not stand strong.
Thank you so much for your encouragement. Let's do this and do it now... |
