Dear Sharra, Speaking in DC last night was meaningful, because no one in this town fails to realize the deeper layers of what goes on here. Washington is headquarters for both the best as well as the worst aspects of American politics. Judging from the standing ovation, people appreciate someone simply saying out loud some things we all know to be true. |
Earlier today I was interviewed on Al Jazeera Arab, providing a chance to speak my heart about an issue critically important to all of us. I said the policy of the United States should be an equally robust commitment to the safety, security and sovereignty of both Israelis and Palestinians. The polarized view of the Gaza situation so prevalent in America today is not where I live in my heart, nor do I feel it paves the way for a sustainable future for anyone. People who exalt the rights of one group at the expense of the rights of the other do not demonstrate the higher consciousness necessary to move the world forward. I was gratified to receive a positive response to my comments.
The world is in tumult, and I am filled with gratitude to those of you who have given me the opportunity to weigh in as a Presidential candidate at this extraordinary moment. While we were stymied in our efforts to get the word out as widely as we would have hoped, I'm confident that where our message was heard it was more often than not deeply embraced. In a couple of days I begin a nine day campaign swing to New Mexico, Oregon and Baltimore, and at that point I will be able to say to you, "We did it. We really did." |
