Dear Sharra, Many Americans are captivated with the solar eclipse today. Even people who aren't normally into such things are intrigued. Will this indeed signify a new end and new beginning? If so, for whom and in what way? |
For over a year, I have proposed a new beginning for America. There are times in life when, as individuals or as a collective, we need to revisit first principles and reset our intentions going forward. That's the conversation we've been having with voters throughout the nation. We have called for an end to one chapter of American history and the beginning of "a new birth of freedom," to use Lincoln's phrase. President Franklin Roosevelt said freedom should mean not only freedom of, such as freedom of speech of freedom religion. He said it also should mean freedom from — freedom from fear and freedom from want. "A necessitous man" he said, "is not a free man." Our campaign has given voice to the needs of necessitous people all over the world. Tonight I'm speaking in Washington DC. What a perfect place to be speaking on the day of the eclipse! If indeed it's true that this cosmic event casts an illumination on worldly events, then hopefully my talk tonight will cast some light on some good ideas. Thank you for supporting this last leg of the journey. I'm so deeply grateful. |
