Dear Sharra, I agree with the Democratic Party that Trumpism is an existential threat and we must end it, but the Democrats fail to see that Trump is a symptom of an underlying problem. We dealt with the symptom by defeating Trump in 2020, but since we didn't deal with the root cause, Trumpism is back.
FDR once said that we wouldn't have to worry about a fascist takeover as long as Democracy delivered on its promises. The root cause – the reason so many Americans support a fraudulent demagogue like Trump – is that democracy has not delivered on its promises for the last half-century.
When I was growing up, many average working Americans could afford a house, a car, and a yearly vacation. Today, too many can't even afford an apartment, healthcare, or education.
When I was young, the Democratic Party was bold in standing with the working class to secure their economic needs, from social security to Medicare. But for the last few decades, the Democratic Party has stood by and sometimes even participated in the decimation of the social safety net and the redistribution of wealth from the 99% to the 1%.
If we want to deal with Trumpism, it is not enough to run against the GOP, we must also run on a program to build an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and corporations.
Please give what you can to our campaign so that we can deal with the root causes of Trumpism and build a nation of justice and prosperity. |
