Dear Sharra, We all know the ways in which the right-wing Supreme Court has been gutting crucial social rights on issues of race, reproductive freedom, and more. What we don't know as much about is how the Supreme Court has been gutting crucial business regulations and furthering corporate rule — and on these issues, Democratic justices are to blame too.
Even before the Court's further leap to the right on social issues during the Trump Administration, the Court has been pro-corporate for decades. "The modern judge is quite economically libertarian, Republican and Democrat alike," said a New York Times reporter.
There are several cases making their way to the Supreme Court that have the potential to disastrously gut regulations in order to help corporations' profits. One case could destroy the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Another case could completely abolish regulatory agencies' power to interpret vague laws. And these cases are just two of many.
Regulations are there so that the food you eat and the air you breathe are safe. They are there so that you are safe at the workplace and safe on the streets. These regulations, however, are a slight drain on the massive profits of giant corporations, and that is why these corporations buy our courts and buy our legislatures in order to do away with them.
All of the major issues we face are connected to the central issue of corporate control of our government. Our campaign is a direct challenge to the corporate rule that plagues our country and unfortunately now controls the Democratic Party just as it has always controlled the GOP. |
I want to bring our government – and our Democratic Party – back to a time when the people had a say, back to a time when corporations could be regulated, back to a time when we had a genuine democracy.
Please join me, together we can hold the Supreme Court accountable and keep corporate greed out of our justice system. |
Thank you for standing with me, |
