Sharra,
I still remember the first time I met now NYC mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. It was years ago, long before anyone imagined he'd become a force in New York politics. What struck me wasn't the title he held — he didn't have one yet — but the fire he carried for justice, for renters, for immigrants, for working families.
He spoke about politics the way people who've lived the struggle speak: with urgency, with clarity, and deep love for the people who make up our communities. I walked away thinking, This is the next generation of leadership, *if* we can fight against the machine to make it happen.
I saw in Zohran what I've always fought for in The Bronx — justice, jobs, and working people who the system tries to leave behind. The Bronx backed our Mayor-elect because we recognized in Mamdani someone who listens authentically, who organizes from the bottom-up, who leads despite the establishment, instead of being beholden to it.
The work Zohran's starting — the policies he's championing, the diverse coalition he's built, the energy he's bringing to our City — deserve a fighter in Congress who will carry them forward.
And that's exactly why I'm running.
