Cities are the problem. They can be a solution too.

Together, we can turn the tide against climate change. View in browser
Ysabel for the Community

Dear Sharra,

Cities like mine are responsible for 75 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. But cities can also be the most significant engines of climate action.

My name is Ysabel Jurado, and I am running for the Los Angeles City Council. Today, I'm reaching out as a candidate in the second-largest city in the U.S., and as someone who shares your deep concerns about the future of our city and planet.

My city was almost underwater last week. The streets were unrecognizable. And the damage this latest California storm caused is almost unprecedented.

The recent catastrophic weather events in Los Angeles have brought to the forefront the urgent need for city leaders who recognize and act on the threats posed by climate change. The unprecedented rain and atmospheric rivers have not only flooded our streets but have also exposed the vulnerabilities in our infrastructure, threatening the safety and well-being of our communities.

I made climate action and environmental justice the center of our campaign's platform as they intersect with every other public policy. Please join me today to ensure Los Angeles has a climate champion at the City Hall.

››› DONATE NOW

The Trump administration aggressively weakened environmental and climate protections and, since restored regulation, could be on the chopping block again after the November election. Combine this with the Congress's inability to bridge the partisan divide on climate and the continuation of war conflicts. You can see how local climate efforts gain importance.

When elected, my priorities on L.A. City Council will include:

  1. Reducing energy and material use through climate-centric land use planning
  2. Switching to net-zero carbon energy sources, including electrifying mobility
  3. Increasing carbon storage through vegetation
  4. Allocating climate-related resources through just and equitable policies

What climate action Los Angeles takes matters to all of us because global warming has no borders. Who leads our largest cities will impact our collective climate vulnerabilities and our response to them nationwide. But your $10 today will go a long way toward a more sustainable and resilient future.

Sharra, you understand that your personal commitment to climate action drives the support of electing leaders who are determined to make the hard decisions necessary to protect us from the escalating threats of climate change. By contributing to my campaign, you are investing in a resilient, sustainable future.

Together, we can turn the tide against climate change and build cities that stand as beacons of hope and resilience. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in this critical fight.

Thank you for considering this urgent appeal. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

Abrazos at Ingat,
Ysabel Jurado
