Our Journey Continues

Dear Sharra,

Over the last few weeks I ran for DNC Chair, an effort which many of you supported. I am deeply grateful.

As a presidential candidate, I saw corruption, obstruction, and downright antidemocratic behavior emanate from the DNC and its allies. I knew that had to change, or the Democratic Party would remain a deeply inadequate counterforce to the Project 2025 agenda.

All this made me understandably curious about the developing race for Chair. Late in the process I decided to throw my hat in the ring myself, as I saw the Establishment v. anti-Establishment contours taking shape in a significant way.

Our first challenge was getting the requisite 40 signatures to make it onto the ballot. We persevered, and the signatures came. Again, my thanks to those of you who gave financially so I could hire the team – very small but excellent – to build the wheels and keep them turning.

My experience of the race was positive. Sure, I saw the problems we’ve all come to recognize: corruption at the top, cluelessness in the middle, and childishness at the bottom. But I also saw something else.

I saw people reckoning with how the failures of the Democratic Party contributed to the challenges of this moment.

I saw sincerity among many people who are ready – as I’m sure you are – to show up for their country in whatever way possible at this critical time.

I saw a willingness for the Party to realign with its highest principles.

In the end, knowing I had no chance to win, I left the race and endorsed Ken Martin. But I left feeling that my argument for a more transformational, progressive, and ethical vision for the DNC had been heard.

As Chair of the Democratic Party in Minnesota, Ken Martin was ethical and honorable with us during the presidential campaign. I expect the same from him going forward and am prepared to do whatever I can to support his efforts for a Democrat win in the House in 2026.

My loyalty has never been to a political party, but to my country. And given the authoritarian assaults on our government now being waged by the Trump/Musk administration, we don’t have time for the Democratic Party to fail.

I have seen the Party at its worst, but I have also seen it at its best. I now see a glimmer of light breaking through clouds of corruption. I believe it’s a new day for the Democratic Party, and I’m available in any way possible to serve the dawn.

Thank you for being there. I will be in touch with you about ways we can best serve our country at this critical time.

All my best,

P.S. If you would like to contribute to the closing out of our campaign debts, your help is deeply appreciated.
